The hinterland grows all year. Subtropical blocks, big rural gardens and one wet season put out more green waste than any bin cycle can move. Byron Shire actually makes DIY easy. Every property gets two $50 disposal vouchers a year, and the council lends out a free box trailer you can book and tow yourself. If you have the time, the tow bar and a free weekday, that is a genuinely good option. If you do not, we bring the truck, the crew and one fixed price of $100 per cubic metre.

Out past the tidy blocks

We know the long driveways and the cut roads

A lot of the shire is not tidy suburban blocks. Main Arm and Upper Main Arm sit up long rural driveways, and the SES Flood Guide notes that even a minor 2.5 metre flood cuts the road to Upper Main Arm above the Palmwoods junction, with Main Arm Road and Left Bank Road impassable at moderate levels. We plan the run around access, not the other way round.

Tell us about the driveway, the gate width or a creek crossing when you send photos, and the fixed quote is built for the real access. Based at Tyagarah, we are ten minutes from the turn-off.

Where does it all actually go?

Green waste goes into the shire's composting stream, not landfill. Anything resaleable can go to the Re-Market Tip Shop at the Byron Resource Recovery Centre, which you check in with before the weighbridge, and to Vinnies on Dalley Street. E-waste, batteries, paint and gas bottles go to the free Community Recycling Centre. Only what nobody can use gets tipped.

What does go to the tip goes to the Byron Resource Recovery Centre at 115 The Manse Road, Myocum, open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm and weekends 8:30 to 11:30am, closed public holidays. It is a transfer station, so it does not take asbestos.
